How To Save Money on Grocery Shopping

Q: I spend way too much money at the grocery store every month. Do you have some tips to help me save on my grocery shopping?
Rachel: Absolutely! I have some pretty basic tips, but they really help me stay focused and on a budget.
First, make a list! This is crucial, especially if you go to the grocery store when you’re hungry. Everything looks good then, doesn’t it? Having a list helps me focus on what I really need without getting distracted by something on every aisle. Plus, I won’t overspend.
Second, I look for fruits and vegetables that are in season. Food that’s in season is cheaper because it’s more available. You know that if you buy a peach in the winter it’s going to be more expensive. So I think through my meals that way. Plus, the food is fresh and delicious.
The last thing I do is buy the store brands whenever possible. I don’t buy store brands on everything. For example, I’ve got to have my name-brand cereal! But things like sour cream, butter, cheese, milk and salsa are a lot cheaper when you go with the store brand.
So those are three ways that I save money when I grocery shop. I think they will help you as well!
